About Yuya Mix

A one-man band, Yuya Mix is a modern folk singer/songwriter from Minnesota. His set includes a guitar and ukulele, keeping in time with his suitcase-drum and tambourine, and often mixing in either harmonica or kazoo. Inspiration for his originals come from small town life and Japanese-American upbringing in the Midwest.

The Traveler's Story

Yuya Mix was born in Japan and raised in Kanagawa Prefecture. At an early age, his family moved to Arlington, South Dakota where he was brought up within the small town. Because of his Japanese-American heritage, he listened to a mix of tunes by Johnnie Cash, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Yumi Arai, Joe Hisaishi, and later Mumford and Sons, Shakey Graves, and Tom Waits. Yuya's originals varies in style from soft crooning to gravelly blues with themes of Japanese culture intertwined within the twangs of American folk.
